VICTORY is MINE! I survived Thanksgiving & lived to blog about it!

So, today I weighed in and guess what, I lost 1.6 lbs! For the first time in a long time I managed to lose weight over a week long Thanksgiving break.

Please allow me to be ungrateful for the next few minutes. Truth be told, that 1.6 loss left me disappointed. And please spare me the "A Loss Is a Loss Lecture."

For the last couple of weeks (yes, a couple) I can honestly say I  put forth a gallant effort toward my weight loss undertakings. For two weeks I shunned bread, rice, and pasta. I woke up 3 times at 4:25 AM for the 5AM session at the CrossFit gym. Although I am thankful for that 1.6 loss, I feel I deserved MORE! That just means next week I work harder!! GAME ON!

Okay, back to being grateful...I owe my loss thanks in part to my strategies I employed & to my TAKE NO PRISONERS attitude!

My previous post provided a variety of strategies to survive Thanksgiving unscathed. Let me share the strategies that I actually used:

  • PLANNING! My mom and I planned our Thanksgiving day meal. She took care to ensure the dinner remained as waist-line friendly as possible. I call this... THANKSGIVING-TO-GO!
  • Traditionally on Thanksgiving Eve, my family kicks of the holiday season with piping hot bowls of gumbo. Well, not me, I ate a salad lovingly prepared by mother. And I sat and stared as everyone else devoured gumbo. Not a big deal, I can always ask my mom to make gumbo anytime I desire...
  • I saved points by skipping the gumbo and rice. I wanted to use any extra points for the mac-n-cheese my mom made for Turkey Day dinner.
  • For our Thanksgiving Eve festivities, my Mom made these tasty Paleo Friendly Crab Stuffed Mushrooms.

  • GETTING IT IN! My top Thanksgiving Day goal ...incorporating activity.  Since, I snoozed on signing up for the local Turkey Trot 5K, I ran my own Turkey Trot at the local hike & bike trail. The crisp fall weather made for a pleasant run.
  • After my run I scooted on over to Wal-Mart to pick a few new games for Family Game Night. While at Wal-Mart I nearly clothes-lined myself on the rope you see pictured below.
  • The store roped off the store in anticipation of the Black Friday lunatics expected later that evening.
  • The moment of truth arrived when plating my meal. Strategy #1...I chose a smaller plate. The smaller plate forced me to return to the pan, some of the hearty helping of macaroni I served myself. My initial larger serving of mac & cheese left no room for other sides.
  • Strategy#2...Veggie Overload.  Check out that big serving of farm fresh collards!
So how did you fare this Thanksgiving? VICTORY of food coma?

  2. It is frustrating when you give it your all and don't see the results that you should. You've got a great attitude though, that will take you far.

I have worked hard this week too- staying almost perfectly on point all week, getting a few good workouts, and the scale has been stubborn all week showing a gain! Today the gain of the last 3 days was finally gone, with a half pound loss, but I really hope to see more for my official weigh in tomorrow. I totally understand your frustration!
