I joined the Blogger blogging community in February of 2009! After two years of blogging I recently arrived at the following realization...
THIS IS MY DAMN BLOG!
Two events led me to the aforementioned realization:
- My last post.
- A twitter conversation.
After I published my last post, I shared the link on Twitter:
@mesohongry: FABULOUS people don't give up!! New blog post! Ah Me So Hongry!: back from the dead....
@singlema: you back from the dead with EVERY post. lol.
@mesohongry: lol...I can't shake it! Can't get it togetha!
@singlema: that's ok. no need to apologize every time. you are sharing your real life and real struggles with us. it is what it is.
@mesohongry: that's been my go-to phrase lately...It is what it is!!
@singlema: you may not be losing right now but you are maintaining and looking fab, so that's a win!
Every time I disappear from the world of blogging I feel like I owe everyone an apology. You know what...
I owe no one an apology...
THIS IS MY DAMN BLOG!
Kudos, props*, big-ups*, round of applause, etc to those of you who maintain a 9 to 5 job and a successful blog. And by successful, you blog daily or manage to provide some level of consistency to your readers.
No matter how you slice it, blogging takes work and dedication! And believe it or not, when time allows...I invest mountains of work and energy into Ah Me So Hongry! Despite the amount of work and dedication I contribute, sometimes life events take precedence over blogging.
But you know what...
THIS IS MY DAMN BLOG...
And I write my own rules, so that means I blog when I see fit. I blog when I get ready. I blog when I feel the need to blog. Not to be a blog snob, but I refuse to post fluff EVERYDAY for the sake of posting.
THIS IS MY DAMN BLOG, AND I WRITE MY OWN RULES.
So, if I choose to blog once a day, three times a week, once a week, once a month...so be it.
I also arrived to the conclusion, that I can choose the subject matter of my blog. I run across dozens and dozens of weight loss blogs that discuss an array of topics...other than weight loss.
You know what...
THIS IS MY DAMN BLOG, AND I WRITE MY OWN RULES.
So, if I choose to write about my high school reunion, my talented kids, kayaking, strippers, and crack-heads...so be it.
Why the sudden revelation? Several months ago I read a post from a popular, self-righteous, judgmental blogger describing the characteristics of a reputable weight loss blog. Long story short...the sanctimonious blogger passed judgement on others for various blog transgressions that inadequate bloggers commit on a daily basis.
Unfortunately, I allowed the words of this preeminent blogger to seep into my subconscious and somewhat alter the way I blog and see myself as a blogger >:-\

What I want to know...who died and made Judgy McJudgerson the boss of all weight loss blogs?!?
What I really want to do...confront the holier-than-thou blogger! I need Judgy to jump off the soap box and dial it down!
But you know what...who cares...
THIS IS MY DAMN BLOG, AND I MAKE THE RULES!
Now that I got that off my chest, I feel better about blogging.
@singlema said it best:
"No need to apologize every time. You are sharing your real life and real struggles with us. It is what it is."
She's RIGHT! IT IS WHAT IT IS! And what is it?
IT'S MY DAMN BLOG AND I WRITE THE RULES!
Love it!!!
ReplyDeleteJust came across your blog! and i must say i love your honesty..there are a lot of judgements in the blog world! Be yourself and do you! like you said...this is your blog and your journey....im a new follower!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I write what I want, when I want... not that I don't take other people's feelings into consideration (I would be sad to offend anyone unintentionally, which has happened), but I don't let other people's expectations of what my blog should be dictate my subject matter, how I write about it or how often I write about it.
ReplyDeleteI like that saying (which I'm probably not getting exactly right): people who matter won't mind and people who mind don't matter. Write what you want. Be who you are. Its your blog!
DAMN STRAIGHT!!!
ReplyDeleteI just love that you write...WHENEVER :)

ReplyDeleteHolla!!!! You said it !! I love your blog, I love your posts, Ms. Judgy should take some notes (I was really not trying to rhyme lol) for those of us who have not reached our milestones reading your blog keeps things in perspective. We are all human, we will make mistakes, you keep it real and that's what I love about your blog, don't change anything.....It's your Damn blog anyway!!!
ReplyDeleteLoving this post!
ReplyDeleteWell said Lady. I think all bloggers can relate. We all take breaks away from blogging b/c life just simply gets in the way sometimes.
ReplyDeletebeen there done that...it's so hard to remember it's YOUR blog...I still have a few stragglers of family that read my blog and I always feel censored knowing their reading.
ReplyDeleteYou're damn right! I needed this - I've been feeling guilty about not keeping up with my blog. You're right! Who cares...it's MY blog!
ReplyDeleteAs someone that blogs only when I feel compelled, I can completely relate to this!
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of healthy living blogs out there, but not many that keep it real. You certainly do!
Thanks!
I love your blog. I enjoy your honesty. Eff... who ever it was who thought that they needed to say ish to you. Bump them. U do you.
ReplyDeletei LOVE your blog.. just discovered and truly appreciate your honesty.. in life you always have to remember who you're living for no matter how big or small the situation is.. you blog for you and that's all that matters... love this post.. something for all of us to remember..
ReplyDeleteAmen sista!
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog over the holiday weekend because I am about to start over once again and was looking for support. I can't tell you how many times I have restarted my journey. Every time I have came back I was embarrasssed to admit that I failed once again but like you said, this is my damn blog and I will blog if and when I want to!
Needless to say...you got yourself another new follower! ;)
There's definitely no need to apologize or justify when and what you blog! Weight loss is not just about food and exercise - it's part of a journey, and during that journey life goes on so it's all related!
ReplyDeleteGreat post :)
My sentiments exactly!
ReplyDeleteLoved this!
This was a truly fabulous post. Your conclusion is spot on, whether it has to do with dieting or anything else!
ReplyDeleteI came to a similar realization earlier this year. It's so liberating to just be yourself without trying to please everyone else and fit into their narrow-minded little boxes.
