Sorry but....

After much contemplation...

It is with a heavy heart that I announce Ah Me So Hongry has decided to say goodbye and take an indefinite blog hiatus...

I plan to return, so stay tuned for more Me So Hongry antics sometime in the near future.

BUT, I am mulling over a few ideas for a new blog...

  • For my first blog idea, I need to decide on the title, either Welcome to 40 Bitches! or One Foot In the Grave. This blog will chronicle my life as I FREAK OUT about turning 40.
OR

  • Untitled Special Education Blog highlighting my classroom successes and challenges.
Right this very moment, I seem to be leaning toward the blog exploiting my head-on collision with 40. There's more opportunity to use profanity and my off color humor.

Well, folks Me So Hongry bids you adieu. In the meantime check out some of my older post. HOLLA HOOKAS

DON'T FORGET ABOUT ME!

Friends Makin' Monday: Three Things

*I made every effort to actually publish this post on Monday, but to no avail...time defeated me!
"Sounds like sombody's got a case of the Mondays"
Nina...Office Space
Today I experienced a brief case of the Mondays. But after one cup of coffee,  I made a speedy recovery. So, every Monday Kenlie from the blog All the Weigh hosts Friend Makin' Mondays.

Since the topic peaked my interest, I decided to participate this week.  If you consider yourself a FMM vet, then you know the rules. Those new to FMM, take the time to answers this week's question on your own blog and then add your link to the comments section of Kenlie's blog.  Please invite your blog readers to participate too. Well let's get started and make some new friends!

1.  Three of my favorite movies (Just 3? When do I ever follow the rules? Not often.):
  • Imitation of Life, A Summer Place, All About Eve
  • Au Revoir Les Enfants, Dead Snow
  • The Wiz..."Ease on down, ease on down the rooooad!"
  • Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, Some Kind of Wonderful, Valley Girl, Heathers
  • A Clockwork Orange, Trainspotting
2.  Three of my favorite things to drink:
  • Sonic Slushes (Spiked...what? Everybody does it! My favorite...strawberry cream slush with Tequila Rose)

  • Wine (Riesling or Pinot Grigio...Pino Greezsh as I like to call it)
  • Hot Cocoa (...when the Texas weather permits)
3.  Three of my favorite songs (JUST 3?!? You know me the REBEL!):
  • Hometown Glory by Adele
  • Back Stabbers by the O'Jays
  • Little Bit by Lykke Li (...the Drake/Lykke Li remix too...)
  • That Girl by Esthero
  • Paul Revere by The Beastie Boys
  • Gymnopedie No. 1 Piano by Eric Sate (I heard this song in commercials and movies.  Thanks to Shazam I finally discovered the title.)

4.  Three people who have recently been a positive influence on your life (outside of your family): I struggled with this question. I need to get back to you on this one:-(

5. Three things you do to keep yourself entertained:
  • Read...mainly trash.  I just explained to someone today, that I read for entertainment, not to learn. If I wanted to learn I would go back to school and finish my Master's Degree.  Just kidding. Quite often I shift to brainiac mode and read to gain knowledge.
  • Start hobbies and never finish them.  I own my own personal HOBBIES GRAVEYARD....where hobbies go to die.
  • People watch O_o and then I provide  my own commentary to the multitude of hotmessness engulfing my surroundings.
6. Three things you're attracted to in the opposite sex:
  • sense of humor
  • conversationalist
  • SWAG-Confidence with a hint of arrogance, but not to douchebaggy...
7.  Three things I love about myself:
  • my humor
  • my resilience
  • my tenacity....you get in my way and it's ON! Try me!
8. The last three people who texted messaged me:
  • Angie...my homie who I endearingly refer to as Hooker, Hooks for short.
  • Jabari...my quirky friend
  • Kaitlyn/Jessica...co-workers, who I enjoyed working with this year.
9.  Three things I am looking forward to this week:
  • Assisting my mom, as well as my boys, at Career Day at my school of employment.  My mom  plans to discuss her cake artistry and the boys aim to encourage the students wanting to pursue a career in dance.
  • Hanging out with a friend tomorrow....movie & cocktails!
  • A BREAK...my boys get one final break from dancing, teaching, and assisting. A much  needed a break before the summer performance schedule kicks off!
10. Three wishes specifically for yourself...What are they? (Be selfish, and be honest)
  • A BOYFRIEND-->FIANCE-->HUSBAND...in that order! I require a financially stable or independently wealthy suitor with reliable transportation. He must own his own humble abode...WITHOUT A PARENTAL UNIT ON THE PREMISES! The number of men who STILL reside with their mother surprises me. I prefer a potential spouse without a criminal record and gold teeth. Tatts and piercings...no problem. Would it be to much to ask that he's easy on the eyes? He MUST treat me like a queen and accept my boys...what's not to love?!
  • Untold riches...
  • MORE WISHES...I'm greedy!
11. Three of your favorite quotes:
  • "Behind every successful person is a pack of HATERS."
  • "I may not be the STRONGEST, I may not be the FASTEST...but I'll be dammed if I'm not trying my HARDEST!"
  • "Life is a dance from one stage to the next!"
12. Three of your biggest fears:
  • Struggling with my weight forever...
  • Dying alone
  • Failing as a parent
13. Three of your favorite TV shows:
  • Project Runway
  • The Walking Dead
  • True Blood
  • Portlandia
  • Dexter...was that 5? My bad.
  • Suits
  • Being Human (U.K. and U.S)
  • Weeds...oops, that makes 8.
14. Three of your favorite things to purchase when shopping:
  • SHOES
  • SHOES
  • SHOES
15. Three things you enjoyed last week:
  • Watching my boys perform with FLY Wellness and Movement Arts!
My oldest!

And that's my youngest in the front with his hand over his mouth...he refers to that pose as his default SWAG move...lol.

  • WORK! Yes, you read that correctly...work. Last school year proved to be a living hell! This year...heaven on earth. I enjoy my students and the company of my co-teachers! Now I teach Special Ed as opposed to teaching first grade last year.
  • An outing with a friend...dinner, a movie, and cocktails...
16. Three things that you always have in your bag or close to you if you're not a purse kind of person:
  • iPhone
  • iPad
  • Mac Lip Gloss
17.  Three foods that you wouldn't want to give up:
  • PIZZA
  • BREAD PRODUCTS
  • PEANUT BUTTER
18. Three things you enjoy doing while burning calories:
  • Dancing
  • Zumba
  • "Hiking" with my boys (This video captures the hilarity and hijinks during a hiking outing).

19. Three things you dislike about blogging:
  • Cliques...Sometime I feel the blog world seems a tad bit clique-ish. I experienced a taste of popularity in high school, so at this point in my life the need to fit in or control who gains access into the "cool" blogging cliques disinterest me.  "Can't we all just get along!" Some of you well known blogger "a.k.a. the "popular kids" need to take the time to acquaint yourself with the "blog minions" such as myself. Use your power for good and give us peons some exposure. A few bloggers confided in me that the cliques make them feel left out. And to that I say...if you feel left out, focus on other blogs. You'll always have a friend in me.
  • To BIG for their britches Bloggers...Some blogger reach their goal and forget where they came from. Hey, you once struggled like I did, so jump off your judgemental soapbox and help your fellow weight loss bloggers. And by help I mean offer inspiration, not your judgemental self-righteousness.
  • Lack of blogging time...Plain and simple, life gets in the way. I blog when the opportunity presents itself.
20. Three ways blogging has changed your life:
  • I met a variety of blogging personalities who I wished lived closer to me, especially TJ from TJ's Test Kitchen. If she lived near me, she would need a restraining order to keep me away from her delicious eats.
  • Blogging keeps me somewhat accountable. With the support of my blog buddies I manage to keep most of the weight off, but I STILL struggle on a day to day basis...such is the nature of the beast.
  • My blog serves as an opportunity for free therapy . It provides the outlet for me to share my weight loss trials and tribulations with other bloggers that "get it," so to speak.  I love the fact that you allow me to entertain and inspire you.
Now it's your turn. Don't forget to link up with Kenlie!

I WILL FOLLOW...

The other day I went through the list of blogs I follow, and I discovered that a majority of the bloggers on my blog reading list  dropped off the face of the earth. As a favor to me, please  leave the name of  your favorite blogs and I WILL FOLLOW!

U2's, I Will Follow...CLASSIC! That tune brings me back to days of fluorescent socks, tight rolled jeans, and mammoth hair and super sized bangs!

When I hear that song it reminds me of the movie, The Last American Virgin (TLAV)!

Yes, I just dated myself. Who remembers that nostalgic 80s film? I believe I Will Follow plays when one of the characters desperately struggles to raise money for his unrequited love's abortion. The 80s, gotta love it!

TLAV captures the essence of the 80's, and the soundtrack...TOTALLY TUBULAR!<---lol, some 80's slang!

Well, gotta motor<---more 80's slang! Before you motor, what's your favorite 80's movie and/or song? Leave me the name of your favorite blogs. Please and Thank You! Laters!

I got the WRITE stuff...

HAWMC Writing Prompt #15:
What's your writing style? Do words just flow from your mind to your fingertips? Do you like handwriting first? Do you plan your posts? Title first or last? Where do you write best?

Despite the sometimes arduous process of creating a blog post, I adore writing.  Truth be told, I aspire to write a book someday. About what?  I played with the idea of penning an expository text about dealing with men and their douchebaggery  mannerisms.

On occasion, I receive comments complimenting my writing style. But what exactly is my style?  I consider myself a "Storyteller."  I design my writing to captivate and entertain an audience. I aim to share my experience complete with descriptions to excite the senses.
With my writing I intend to tell a story with my words and transport the reader to that particular point in time. An extra added bonus to my style, my posts tend to take a comedic turn from time to time. I never force the funny, it just flows.

In my opinion, the following posts highlight my "storyteller" style (Click the links to read the posts):
When I create, I consider myself an artist. I use words to paint a picture. Words. Words. Words. I regard myself somewhat as a novice wordsmith. I prefer to use $5 words (expressive or creative words) rather than mundane, ordinary ones. Case in point, in the previous sentence I employed the word mundane rather than boring.

As a teacher, I encourage my students to utilize $5 words  and to retire blah, dreary words to the word cemetery.
So to answer the question, do the words just flow from my mind to my fingertips...yes and no. When my blogging mojo arrives on the scene, my words resemble that of a current surging through a light bulb.

However, I periodically experience writer's block. And when blocks occur I stop blogging until the blockage recedes. In the past I apologized for my many writer's block blog hiatuses. Now...no apologies. Rather than force a post,  I made the desicion to blog when I AM damn ready...THIS IS MY BLOG!

Next question, do you like handwriting first? It depends on my mood or the topic at hand.  Oftentimes I brainstorm a post or jot down ideas. If a notion strikes while driving, I record the thoughts with my phone.

Now, to acknowledge the remaining three question. Yes and no, to the query of do I plan posts. I typically write about current events in my life. Every now and then, a "hot button" topic that chaps my hide comes to the forefront of various media outlets and in turn, I write an emotional response, as in the case of the post...I'm about to piss some people off.

So what came first, the title or the body of the post? This question reminds of the causality dilemma...which came first, the chicken or the egg. In my case, the title precedes the body of the post. On rare occasions, my posts inspires a title.  I strive to create a post titles that peak my reader's interest. One of my favortie post title...Thing I learned from a one-legged stripper.

And lastly, allow me to address where the blogging magic happens. Blogging location depends on my mood. Normally, I blog in my bedroom; however, when the weather permits I revel in sitting on the patio and letting my creative juices flow!

When the mood strikes, I blog any and everywhere...when time allows.

How about you? Tell me:
What's your writing style? Do words just flow from your mind to your fingertips? Do you like handwriting first? Do you plan your posts? Title first or last? Where do you write best?

Houston Healthy Lifestyle Meet-Up Recap

Last Saturday, November 12, 2011 a few bloggy friends and I convened  for the First Annual Houston Healthy Lifestyle Meet-Up

The ladies and I met around 10 AM and enjoyed a brisk morning walk at Hermann Park.  Even though a few of us met for the first time, we conversated and giggled like sorority sisters.  At the end of the path, we stopped to commemorate our walk.
After the walk, we ventured to Hungry's Bistro & Cafe for a bite to eat. I ordered the Sunrise Wrap. After I received my wrap I scraped the gelatinous cheese to the side of my plate.
This wrap served as my last meal, so to speak, before my big challenge

After our lunch we disbanded and went our separate ways:-( I thoroughly enjoyed the company of these jazzy ladies!  When you get a minute take the time, mosey on over, and get to know these fabulous fit bloggers:

and not to mention these two arriving fashionably late...lol:

This gathering served as the first of many more fun events to come!

As a matter of fact, for those Houstonians who missed the first get-together, get yo hot pants, satin jackets, and leg warmers ready. For the next meet-up we decided to take it to the rink, the skating rink that is...ROLL...BOUNCE!

More details to follow but the tentative date is December 3rd.

Stay tuned for more deats!

Upcoming blog post you might not want to miss:

I visited Jen's blog the other day, and I saw quite a few familiar names in her queue. A queue?!? Yes, a queue!! When I purchased my design, I saw no queue! Ya'll better jump on the bandwagon before Jen blows up and forgets the little people:-)

So what renovations am I making?

SAME blog, NEW look!

Last week, I impulsively decided to get a blog makeover.  I tried to redesign my blog myself a few times, but it took FOREVER to figure out the in and outs of blog designing. It took me 2 DAYS to design my previous header.
For several months I searched for a blog designer, a reasonably priced blog designer...but to no avail I found a bunch of high priced designers.  I gave up my search, but thanks to Toot at Wonderfully Complex, I found Jen from Just Foolin Blog Designs.

Since I decided on a whim to make some necessary and much needed changes, I had absolutely, positively, no idea of what I wanted. Jen sprung into action and suggested the pic you see in the header!  I quickly grabbed my camera, turned my dining area into a portrait studio, and started snapping away. In no time Jen created a mock-up for me to see! She works FAST!

And  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, my Facebook and Twitter badges!! LOVE IT!! And my blog  button...SUPER JAZZY. I LOVE IT! I LOVE IT! I LOVE IT! The video below describes exactly how I feel about my new look!!
Make sure you grab my button, it's FREE!!

I plan to make a few more changes and then my new look will be complete! FYI, iPhone and iPad  users, the blue background does not show up. As much as I love sitting here yammering on and on about my new look, I really want to finish watching Season 1 of TRUE BLOOD...FANGBANGIN TIME!

THANKS AGAIN JEN!

7 Links Challenge. . . The Me So Hongry Edition

As usual, my ADD led me to many many weight loss blogs today, AND then I stumbled upon Pro Blogger's 7 links challenge via John Is Fit.  So, here goes...

If you follow my blog religiously, you already know from time to time I lose focus and momentum. And whad'ya know, this happens to be one of those time. So, I though it befitting that I click back to WHERE IT ALL STARTED...my first post...to remind myself why I choose to fight this battle of the bulge day in & day out!

If you follow my blog religiously, you already know from time to time I lose sight of why I blog and I get caught up in numbers: comments, followers, link-up participants, etc. To REMIND MYSELF WHY I pound away on my laptop sharing my thoughts, I often peruse my blog and read posts that I enjoyed writing the most.

If you follow my blog religiously, you already know from time to time my writer's voice loses direction and I sometimes blog about random nothingness, but every now and then I FIND MY GROOVE and produce a  posts that encourages a great discussion

If you follow my blog religiously, you already know I need to make a doctor's appointment to receive an official diagnosis for my ADD...lol. Blame the ADD for lack of comments on your blogs. See what happens is...I click on your blog, see other bloggers in your blogroll, and then proceed to blog jump.

While BLOG JUMPING I always read posts on other people's blogs that I wish I had written. Karen from Fitness: A Journey Not A Destination writes many thought provoking post that make me go hmmmm...

If you follow my blog (Do you see a pattern developing here...lol?)

If you follow my blog religiously, you already know I sometimes throw w(h)ine & cheese parties demonstrating my failure to see the bright side during times of woe. On occasion my inner Partridge Family/Brady Bunch shines through and I write a helpful post (even if the post features a one-legged stripper) encouraging bloggers  to TURN THEIR FROWN UPSIDE DOWN.

If you follow my blog religiously, you may not know that on occasion I spend way too much time concocting creative post titles. At one time I thought about using song titles as post titles. But truth be told, simple is the way to go. Simple titles using keywords optimizes search engines and draws more people to your blog. I think.

Anyway...if I were to select a post title I am most proud of...hands down...
"Would you give a crackhead crack?"

Sarcastically (my brand of humor), I began each passage with, "If you follow my blog religiously..."

I know sometimes life gets in the way and following Ah Me So Hongry religiously, reading EVERY single one of my blog posts is extremely unrealistic and demanding.  But I admit I do read every almost every post of a few blogs I follow.

With that being said I leave a hilarious PANTS SPLITTING POST,  I wish more people had read....

If you write your own 7 links post, please link up and share...

Aloha Friday #1

Welcome to my first Aloha Friday post. What's Aloha Friday you ask? Well... In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is a day to celebrate the end of the week and the beginning of the weekend... basically a day to just chill. So with that being said (well, written), on Fridays I plan to chill and take it easy on posting by simply posing one question for you to answer. After you answer the question, ask one on your blog, and then link up to Kailani's blog. So, here goes nothing...

My head hurts just thinking about my busy day tomorrow:

6:00 AM Workout??

7:00 AM Weigh-in

7:45 AM Take boys to the convention center to perform with the dance crew

8:30 AM-10:30 AM (not really sure of duration of time at the convention center) Fun Run Fly Crew Performance
Fast forward
4:30 PM Drop son off at friends party
5:00 PM Meet Mom at her house and leave for birthday party at Grand Lux Cafe
5:30 PM-8:15 PM Arrive at party, PARTY, then leave to pick up son

9:00 PM Pick up son from party
9:15 PM Arrive home and collapse

At some point during the chunk of time sandwiched between the performance and dropping my son off to his friend's party, I need to go to the grocery store for my weekly menu food purchases. Saying all that to say, I doubt time will permit a Saturday post. And I really want to catch up on some of favorite blogs. So my friends, my question to you:

How often do you post on your blog?

and
How often do you read the blogs of others?
