GOT MILF?

I would love to take credit for my witty post title, but...I ripped the title off from an email I received from Spark People. I originally planned to title this post " O NO SHE DI'INT!" Instead I opted for GOT MILF...get it?

Okay, so I rocked this ensemble last month at a quince I attended (BEST QUINCE EVER!). When I arrived on the scene the young men my kids dance with whipped their head around, and then proceeded to  hoot and holler about HOW HOT I LOOKED! And I quote: "DANG MS. GAINES WOOOO HOOOO! YOU LOOK HOT!  OOOOO MS. GAINES! GOOOOOO MS. GAINES!"

I let the dance crew carry on for several minutes and I loved every second of it! Check me out...MILF in da hizzy!
My boys participated in the quince and performed with their dance crew.

Okay, so back to me...check out the jacket. You like? Well let me tell you the back story.

LOOK WHAT I CAN DO (Motivation Makeover Rd. 2)!!

Yesterday, a fellow weight loss buddy reminded me that Weight Watchers (WW) entails more than just watching our weight.  Aside from the dwindling numbers on the scale, my ability to buckle my own shoe,  run a 5K, make better choices when eating out demonstrates non-scale victories (NSV) that celebrate my healthier lifestyle.

While chit chatting on FB (Facebook), my WW comrade confessed that she gained weight while attempting to manage the program on her own. Despite her weight gain, my buddy made a most clever decision...

To take her mind of the extra added lbs., my buddy ventured to the Kemah Boardwalk to remind herself that a little over a year ago, 100+ extra pounds  excluded her from riding the rides.

Here's a couple of pics of the Kemah Boardwalk from one of my Summer visits:

Lunch:The lesser of many, many, many evils...
...and a little dessert (sorry for the food porn)...I shared!

My WW cohort got me to thinking and she reminded me of a list I made when I hit my 50th post. In effort to overcome my current weight loss and fitness slump, now seemed like an apropos time to revisit my list, assess my non-scale victories and inspire myself:

50 Reason Why I WILL Remove This Weight...FOR GOOD!

1. Perform my Beyonce "Crazy in Love" karaoke routine, not missing one booty bounce from start to finish.  I get request to perform this number every time my cousin hosts a karaoke party (call or email for a quote...lol).

2. Sing or play " That's What You Get" by Paramore on Rock Band with my kids, complete with mosh jumping without sounding like I'm gasping for air. As of late, Our X-Box died so no rehearsal time for me.

3. Stop the buttons on my shirt from screaming, "Unbutton me...the shirt is to TIGHT!"  DONE! WELL, THIS WAS A QUICK FIX...I NOW BUY MY CORRECT SIZE IN SHIRTS...NO MORE TIGHT SHIRTS.

4. Jog without warning fellow joggers that I'm coming up from the rear. You know... when you wear those swish swish workout pants and your thighs rub together...your pants make that swish, swish, swish sound.

5Go para-sailing.
6. Shop on one side of the store...the misses side. Not plus, not women's, not plus size...just misses.DONE! AND IT FEELS GOOD!

7. Run a mile without stopping. DONE!!
8. Stop shirts from disappearing in my back fat.  Kinda still working on that one.
9Paint toenails with becoming a contortionist (stomach gets in the way). DONE!
10. Live a healthier life. DONE!

11. Stop feeling like someone is following me. No one is following me...it's just my butt! I'M KINDA LOVING MY BUTT RIGHT NOW!

12. Wear shorts without my crotch eating them. You know when your thighs rub together, your shorts magically ride up your legs and disappear, therefore causing you to dig them out. FYI...that ain't cute. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN ABOUT 11 YEARS, I PURCHASED MY FIRST PAIR OF SHORT TO BE WORN IN PUBLIC...EVEN PECAN MAN COMMENTED ON HOW JAZZY I LOOKED IN MY SHORTS...YOU BE THE JUDGE.

13.  Rub my success in the face of my haters and doubters both past and present. No...I plan not to be the bigger person.
14. Go hang gliding.

15. Wear a bathing suit. I cannot recall the last time I wore a bathing suit.

16. Dance the Michael Jackson's Thriller choreography with my kids EVERY TIME the video airs. And "Beat It" too. I THINK I WROTE THIS RIGHT AROUND THE TIME OF MJ'S UNTIMELY DEMISE. WHEN THE MEDIA COVERED THE 1YR ANNIVERSARY OF HIS DEATH, BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY I PERFORMED THE CHOREO EVERY TIME HIS VIDEOS AIRED...EVERY TIME!

17. Become a WEIGHT WATCHERS LEADER!

18. Appear on one of those 1/2 their size magazine covers.

19. Feel comfortable wearing sleeveless clothing. I WEAR A LOT MORE SLEEVELESS CLOTHING THAN I USED TO BUT I SOMETIMES STILL FEEL SELF CONSCIOUS OF MY CHICKEN WINGS.

20.Wear timeless clothing pieces I kept...like my lil black dress...that no longer fits. I have however been able to wear clothes I kept when I gained weight.

21. Go whitewater rafting.

22. Reduce 2 stomachs to 1...I'M ABOUT DOWN TO 1 1/2 STOMACHS...

23. Reveal my new body on Oprah...I EMAILED OPRAH ABOUT  4 TIMES AND SHE NEVER RESPONDED...I GUESS SHE'S BUSY! "I DO NOT APPRECIATE BEING IGNORED OPRAH!"

24. Write and publish a This-Is-How-I-Did-It-Y'all book.

25. Drop it like it's hot without killing my knees. You should see me at ZUMBA!

26. Run up the 72 steps in Philly like Rocky Balboa...ADRIENNE!

27. Take a ballet or contemporary dance class. DOES A MOMMY & ME CLASS WITH MY KIDS COUNT?

28. Look good naked! Anyone ever watched the British version of this show?

29. STOP shopping at Layne Bryant! One time a sales clerk convinced me to purchase a halter which I only wore once. WHICH brings me to #30. DONE! Make sure you check out the ceremonial shredding of my Layne Bryant credit card!

30. Wear a halter top without fat spilling over the top and side of the shirt.

31. MORE ENERGY! DONE!

32. Completely wrap a regular bath size towel around my body without body parts playing peek-a-boo. DONE!

33. Bring SEXY BACK!  DONE! I BROUGHT SEXY BACK AS A BIG GIRL...

34. Stop asking my children to buckle my shoe (the ole stomach gets in the way). That's what kids are for...shoe bucklers.

35. Run a 5K.  THIS IS SO DONE!

36.Walk up the stairs without emulating the big bad woof...huffing and puffing.

38. Find a shallow mate who like me for my H-O-T rocking bod. ANYONE GOT  A SINGLE BROTHER OR UNCLE?

39. Enjoy life more.

40. More choices of stores when shopping. THIS IS SO DONE!

41. Feel more comfortable in my own body.

42. When I shake my arm and then stop, I want the entire arm to STOP at the same time!

43. I want to stand with both legs inside one leg of a pair of pants at my highest weight.  DONE!!!!!

44. Look down and see my entire foot not just my toes.

45. Lose the stomach flap. It reminds me of those pop up books you read children. You know...you pull the flap and BAM...surprise!

46. Be happy

47. Lower blood pressure. CATCH 22...I LOWERED MY BLOOD PRESSURE, BUT NOT ON MY OWN.  LAST OCTOBER MY DOCTOR PRESCRIBED BENICAR TO HELP ME MANAGE MY PREDISPOSITION-ed HYPERTENSION CONDITION :-(

48. Zip my sexy 2 1/2 inch, maybe 3 high heel burnt sienna boots. I tend to struggle with the zipper around my big calf.  DONE!

49. I LOVE the feeling of SUCCESS when I achieve my mini weight loss goals.

Okay my motivation meter just shot through the roof!

YOUR TURN...share one of your latest non-scale victories!

Make New Friends but Keep the Old

I remember that song from Girl Scouts...Make new friends, but keep the old...one is silver and the others gold...(flashback over).

Okay, finished reminiscing about my Girl Scout days of yore, and now on to the meat of this post. So a few weeks back I made new friends with Ralph Lauren and Bill Blass while on a shopping excursion. As my body continues to adapt to my lifestyle change, I decided not to spend large amounts of money on new clothes to dress my still changing body. I choose to explore more frugal option like my local Goodwill.
Believe it or not, another option worth exploring...my old clothes. The funny thing, some of my old clothes actually fit better now since losing weight. The reason for the better fit, the clothes were too tight, but I wore them anyway thinking I looked fabulous. Case in point, this outfit pictured below. I loved (and still do) this black bolero jacket and pin-stripped mock corset.

On the left my boobs are clearly trying to escape the corset. On the right....what boobs? You know? I just knew I rocked the crap out of this ensemble every time I wore it until.........one day.

Here's the one day...
So last year, I wore this outfit to my friend's karaoke party, and at the party a group of us sang or rather screamed Poison by BBD. Before I went on stage, I asked one of the other ladies sitting at the table to video us making complete fools of ourselves. So, fast forward to several months later. I decided to put together a photo montage of the karaoke party as a friendly gesture to the birthday girl. While trying to cut and edit some video clips I heard the following:

Former Best Friend: ...yeah but that shirt is too tight though (I failed to hear the comment that provoked that statement, but they were talking about me).

Former Best Friend: Who? My used to be best friend. That shirt is like a corset.

Other party Go-er: What? Wait...who's shirt? Who? What? Who?

Former Best Friend: If I say who, then they (I don't know who "they" is.) are going to know who I'm talking about. You know who. The one who used to date my brother. (True, I dated her brother which was probably the beginning of the end of our friendship. But everything happens for a reason.) It's not a shirt. It's a corset.

Other Party Go-er: It's made like that (it meaning the shirt).

Former Best Friend: No its a corset and it's tooooo tight. (The rest of the conversation sounded muffled and then I
hear a burst of laughter).

WHO'S LAUGHING NOW! You know, ev
en though I looked like a big fat pig on stage, I appeared to be enjoying life and not hiding from the world (unlike some people). Yes, I still possess the infamous video, and every time I think about calling up my former best friend to reconcile I remember what I heard.

Let me clear up something. Our friendship ended way before the making of the video, but every now and then I think about being the bigger person and calling her. But in this instance, I can live with being the smaller person

Now, on to my OLD friends..
I paired this OLD turtleneck purchased 3 years ago with a patent leather belt from Wal-Mart.

Socks on sale at Target for $1.24. $40 dollars Bandolino shoes purchased at Shoe Cents' going out of business sale for $10 dollars.

My mom bought this denim blazer, size XL Juniors, a couple of years ago but it was to small. The Ralph Lauren pin-stripped shirt, I purchased a while back became to small as my body ballooned. HELLOOOO Ralph!!! Nice to see you again.

OLD size 18/20 sweater and button down shirt paired with thrifted $2.99 belt. The belt makes my waist look slimmer therefore altering the bigness of the shirts. BELTS ROCK!

Oh by the weigh (lol) I lost 2.2 this week. I posted last week's results of a 1.8 gain in my Thanksgiving post, but due to the jacked-upness (not a real word) of my Thanksgiving post, I removed it so that I can repair the post and publish again.

Peace on Earth...GOODWILL to Me(n)!

Hey, I just realized my last post was my 100th post! I hope someone found some useful information in one of those 100 posts of my sometimes insane rambling. Before I get on with this post how bout a little housekeeping starting with weigh in results.

I got OWNED by the scale this week, +.8 lbs. I chose not to invest any negative energy into my weigh in results. No use in crying over .8, not even a whole pound. I can honestly say I made a valiant effort with my food choices and my tracking. I must admit, my tracking efforts fell by the wayside lately, but last week I set two goals:
  1. Goal #1, track...If I bite it, write it!
  2. Goal #2, work on the WW Healthy Guideline specific to incorporating 2 doses of healthy oils daily. To incorporate oil, I added 1 tsp of olive oil to my afternoon smoothie, homemade salad dressing, oatmeal, and/or my morning grits.
This week I plan to continue to work on these same two goals, PLUS add more activity. Since I'm off from work this week, there is no excuse for not working out. So, goal #3, workout at least 5 times this week. Since my week starts on Saturday, 1 workout down and 4 to go.

On to my post...
MEET MY PERSONAL STYLIST... God's Favorite Shoes. I often visit GFS's blog to drool over her FABULOUS thrift finds.
A few weeks ago I confided in GFS that I lost my fashionista mojo. Back in the day, (the lighter days) I stayed on point with the latest fashion styles and trends. Well, the more weight I piled on, the less options remained for places to shop. AND, for big girls around my age (21...lol), not many stores carry affordable, age appropriate, non-tent resembling clothing like the frock pictured below.

Getting to the point...
I told GFS that I desperately needed some clothes that actually fit and I needed her fashion expertise to try to put some looks together. I no longer wanted to dress so matchy-matchy, Gap ad. I desired a new look to show off my more svelte silhouette. So, me and GFS went shopping and she helped put these ensembles together (Ignore my hair and the price tags thrown on the floor):
BEFORE: Old Navy black dress $9.99
AFTER: Old Navy Dress + Old Navy Jacket $9.99 + Pink/Black Snakeskin Belt $2.99 AND my Halloween fishnets.

I love my Madden Girl shoes! I already had these shoes but decided to try them on with this dress.

New York & Co. Geometric Shapes Wrap Dress $9.99. I paired this dress with my "Beat Ya Down Boots" I almost went to jail over these $150 dollar Antonio Melani boots I got for $35.00. I was trying on one boot, and the other boot sat silently in the box. A lady walked by and attempted to grab the other boot in the box. I informed her that I was already trying on the boots, and then she looked at me like whatever. I looked at her like "try it and see what happens." We stared each other down and she finally walked off. I was prepared to go to war over these boots.

Ralph Lauren Shirt Pinstriped Black Shirt $6.99 + Cobalt Blue Belt $ 2.99

Now, ask me where I purchased these great finds...
That's right! Peace on Earth...Goodwill to me!And if you think you are to good for Goodwill, the you need to get over yourself real quick. I purchased many more pieces like my Bill Blass Tuxedo Shirt. I wanted to show you some of my other looks, but my photographer started to get a little annoyed with my multiple wardrobe changes.

Priceless...

Magenta Joseph A. sweater purchased from Foley's....$45.

Magenta and Black Embroidered Notations skirt purchased from Foley's...$59.

Gianni Bini flats from Dillard's...$89 (but got them on sale for $12)

Wearing an outfit long since forgotten, shoved away in a drawer because you gained many, many, many, pound and everytime you wore the outfit the seams resembled that of David Banner transforming into the Incredible Hulk...PRICELESS!

I purchased this skirt and shirt about four years ago during one of my many WW stints. I think I wore this outfit a couple of time before it started bursting at the seams. Not wanting to part with this jazzy ensemble, I packed the skirt away in the back of a drawer to be worn after I lost weight. WELL... today people, that day finally ARRIVED!

As usual, I woke up this morning disoriented and wondered what to wear. I opened my armoire and the color of the shirt caught me eye. I thought to myself....Self, I wonder if THAT skirt fits. I flew off the bed, rifled through the drawer, and tried on the skirt. BAM...IT FIT!!! With a little help from my slimming garment, I rocked this bad boy at work today and received a couple of comments.
O...FYI...the jewelry you see...made by yours truly.

Many moons ago I decided to start making my own jewelry, and like every other hobby I started, I quit. I recently diagnosed my self with H.A.D.D., Hobby Attention Deficit Disorder. Case in point, my scrapbook blog...yeah only 2 or three entries.

Hard Pill To Swallow

Okay, so I mentioned a recent NSV I experienced at the doctor's office. Let me set the stage, so to speak...

So, week before last, the campus hosted a comprehensive health screening for $150 dollars, which my insurance covered 100%. Yes, 100%! At first I decided not to participate, but then the nurse sent an email explaining the benefits of the screening. And for me, the #1 benefit...NO OUT OF POCKET COST. The only drawback, no breakfast or food until after the screening. I loves me some breakfast y'all!

Before the nurse tied me off to draw blood from my all to willing veins, she took my blood pressure. Lo and behold, y'all my blood pressure was off the chain...169\90! Yes, you read that right! The nurse told me to contact my physician immediately and take care of my pressure.

Definition of off the chain: crazy, uncontrollable, nuts, insane in the membrane

A bit of history...
Unfortunately high blood pressure runs in the family. Around 6 years ago, I began to suspect the onset of the family curse, and my doctor and I started monitoring my blood pressure.

Okay, so getting to the NSV. I immediately made an appointment for the following day. I arrived at the doctor's office and went through the obligatory rigmarole. The nurse led me to the examining room and started rifling through my file. As I sat there freezing in the meat locker (Why is the doctor's office so cold? Are they freezing meat in the back?) As I was saying, as I sat there shivering the nurse continued to violently flip through the papers in my file. At this point, I started feeling slightly alarmed. My thoughts...WTH is she looking for?

Flip...flip...flip...flip! Finally she stopped, turned to face me, and the following conversation ensued:

Nurse: Ummmm...Are you Trina?

Me: (apprehensive) Ummm...yeah. I think soooooo. (not really sure who I am at this point...)

Nurse: Ummmm...Did you lose weight?

Me: (...wanting to say Hell to the Yeah) Yes I did! 42 pounds! How much did I weigh on my last visit?

Nurse: 231 (I now weigh 186.). WOW! HOW?

Me: Weight Watcher, watching what I eat, and trying to incorporate movement.

Nurse: WOW! I think I may join!! 42 pounds!!!

So, BAM...there it is, my doctor's office NSV. In short, the doctor prescribed Benicar. For me, taking medication for high blood pressure is a hard pill to swallow (not literally cause the pills are actually quite small).

I just thought taking preventive measures, such as losing weight might allow me to escape the family curse. But to no avail, here I sit with 3 free sample bottles of Benicar in my purse.

UPDATE!!!
During my follow up EKG appointment today, my blood pressure read 118/20. In addition, I brought in the results from the screening...more dismal news. The doctor informed me of my Anemic status. But on the bright side, my cholesterol rocks!!! My overall cholesterol...131. BAM...take that high blood pressure!

Bare with me...or is it bear with me...

Either way...I appreciate all of the support and encouragement provided by those of you leaving comments and following, despite my lack of posting. I plan to post at least 3 times a week, but sometimes my life gets plenty busy and i barely eek out one post.

Well this week, I turn 36, on Wednesday, November 4th, and plan to celebrate...pretty much everyday (except Wednesday when I attend school. Boooooo!). Saying all that to say my posts this week may be few and far in between as well.

Oooooo, before I go, let me tell ya about my unsuspecting NSV (Non Scale Victory) I received today. Two of the Special Education coordinators walked into my room this morning to check on me, the students, and school year thus far. One of the ladies asked if I lost weight. With a mouth full of banana I shook my head and then replied, "42 pounds as of last Saturday!"

That's right y'all, I experienced a small loss of .6 last week for a grand total of 42. Well I must skedaddle now. I wanted to use my little bit of extra time to drop a line. And you MUST RETURN for my next post featuring me in my Hottie Pirate costume. The only thing I have to say is...I wish I could wear a petticoat and laced up boots EVERYDAY!

Arrrrrr! Ahoy Mateys! (NSV Alert)

Man o man, the weekends fly by so fast. As usual, planned activities and festivities monopolized my entire weekend. Saturday night my girlfriends and I celebrated Missy's birthday.

The birthday girl...Missy.

Group picture...that's me in the khaki shirt dress on the end.

NSV alert! I think June was the last time I partied with the ladies, so when I approached the table they whooped and hollered at my new and improved figure. The belt really helped to slim me down.

Sunday, I dropped the boys off at rehearsal and scooted down the freeway to Frankel's costume shop where I spent an arm and a leg and kidney on my Halloween costume. Don't worry, I will get my moneys worth because I received 3 Halloween party invites, and I plan to attend all 3. So without further adieu, I present to you, The Treasure Hunt Pirate. BAM!

I still need to purchase the boots and the fishnets. I pray that the fishnets hide the "cottage cheese" on the back of my thighs. Man on Halloween, I plan to rock the crap out of this little ensemble!
